The word spring brings up many different feelings for people. For some, it’s the start of sunshine and putting away the winter boots. Others stock up on Kleenex for the start of allergy season. Then, there are those who think of their long-awaited cleaning list.
Spring cleaning is one of those things that you cannot avoid. There are those parts of the home that you clean only once a year. Whether you dread it or look forward to it, it’s essential that you go through your spring cleaning to ensure the health of not just your house, but everyone living inside of it too.
We came up with a spring cleaning checklist to help cover all the necessities in your home.
Wash Walls and Ceiling
It may not be the most enjoyable task, but chances are you’ve noticed fingerprints and splashes of liquids plastered on the walls, and even the ceiling of your home. Over time, the dirt and oils from our fingers build up on the walls as we touch them. Mix that in with any spills, your walls need a good clean.
Reorganize Your Closets
Over time, our once beautifully organized closets look like a tornado ripped through them. Closets end up being the spot that we toss items in that we don’t use very often. They collect many things that you likely don’t need anymore. Plus, when you’re in a hurry and trying to find something, you often pull apart the closet and then shove everything back inside.
As you reorganize your closet, separate everything into piles. One pile should be for items you’re putting back in the closet, one for those you should sell, and another for anything that should go to the garbage. It’s also a moment to check on your shelves to see how they’re holding up and if you need more.
Shampoo Carpet and Rugs
Have you ever wondered what your rugs and carpets gather after days on end of people walking on them? The fibres in carpets can collect dirt and allergens. Vacuuming can only go sofar in cleaning them. Once in a while your carpets and rugs need a thorough shampooing and rinse.
Clean Your Furniture
Furniture pieces like chairs and couches often get neglected for cleaning. Wooden chairs can collect dust over time. Upholstered pieces have many crevices that food and dirt can fall into. You can beat the cushions outside to remove the dust. If the furniture is really dirty, you may want to think of steam cleaning them.
Polish Metal Hardware
Anything metal in your house or the hardware on the doors and cabinets in your home should get polished once a year. The polish not only adds a clean shine to them, but it can also help protect the pieces against scratches.
Check Smoke Detectors
Even if you’ve changed the batteries in the smoke detectors not that long ago, you should still check them. It’s essential that you keep tabs on your smoke detectors, as they are your first line of defence if your house caught fire.
Use our spring cleaning checklist to tackle tasks that can get forgotten about.
