How to Decide on the Best Theme for Decorating

If you’re someone who wants more than simply slapping paint on the wall and hanging up a few photos in your house as a way of decorating, you’re someone who needs a theme in their house.

A theme is a great way to wrap every room together. That way, each roomflows into one another. You can choose any theme you want and findthe right colours, decorations, and accessories to bring that themeto life.

The hard part is deciding on what theme to attempt. We have a few tipsthat will help you decide on the best theme for decorating your home.

Look at What You’re Passionate About

Start with your passion. There is a difference between liking something and being passionate about it. When you start decorating with a theme, you don’t want to have a change of heart halfway through. Then what do you do?

Think of all the things in life that bring you more than temporary joy. Apassion is something that lasts for a long time, and is what yougenuinely want or love. Remember, you’ll be surrounded by thistheme every day, so make sure you really like the idea.

Think of the Accessories

You want to consider the accessories and decorations that go along withyour potential theme. If you pick a theme that will cost you too muchmoney in decorating, or you find that there is little to noaccessories around to make the theme come to life, you may want toreconsider your idea.

As you come up with theme ideas, make a note of the additionalaccessories and decorations you would want. Include items likeshelving, paintings, wall colours, furniture, and other decorations.

Ensure You Have the Space

Unfortunately, not every theme works with every house. You need to have the space toadd all the elements to bring a theme to life. If you don’t, yourroom will look crowded and feel overwhelming.

Once you have your list of accessories for a set theme, start o image whatthey would look like in the room. Make a note of how many items youwould need, and compare that to what you already have.

Work Within Your Budget

As fun and enjoyable as it is to decorate with a theme in mind, you alsohave to workwithin your budget. Chances are, you do not have an unlimitedamount of money to spend on decorating. If you don’t work within abudget, that renovation will quickly get out of hand and could throwyou deep into debt.

Make a budget before you begin. Decide on how much you want to spend onevery aspect of the decorating, including paint, accessories, anystructural renovations, and furniture. If you go over budget in onecategory, see where you can make cuts in another one.

Picking a theme for your house can add a whole new element besides paintingthe walls. Find a theme that suits your personality and that theentire family will enjoy. What you do should last for many years tocome.
